MyTime After-Schools Programme

In May 2006 the centre opened the “My Time” Afterschools Childcare Service and in conjunction with local parents the service has developed significantly in recent years.

The mission of the ‘My-Time’ After-Schools Service Committee is to:

provide a safe, fun, happy and inclusive environment which develops children’s skills for interaction, learning and play.

“My Time” Afterschools service is overseen by a sub-group of the Board of Management of HFRC. The committee is made up of local parents, staff and Board of Management members. The committee makes key decisions with regard to the running of the service.

HFRC offer an Afterschools and School Holiday Programme to provide a childcare service outside of school hours for primary school-aged children. The committee aims to provide an inclusive service in a safe and professional environment. Its objectives are to provide activities to meet the needs of children and to develop their skills and abilities in a fun environment.  We wish to provide a program of activities that will enhance and compliment the children’s learning outside of the home and school. The provision of this childcare facility also provides parents with opportunities to access training, education and employment.

All of our staff are fully qualified in childcare and have up to date First Aid and Child Protection Training as a requirement for their position within the service. All staff, volunteers and students are checked through the Garda Vetting process and through referees in line with both statutory and internal policy.

The Afterschools facility is separate to the other functions of the centre and the children have their own dedicated Activity Rooms and Play areas. Outdoors we have a purpose built play area with both a tarmac yard and a large grass area where children can take part in activities such as Football, Tennis, Basketball, Rounders, Dodgeball, Badminton, Kite Flying, Skipping, Swingball and much more, all weather permitting of course.

Indoors we have a purposely fitted out play room.  A separate Homework room ensures that the children have a quiet area to carry out their studies under the supervision of our qualified staff.

In addition to traditional play activities our staff also organise activities such as Cookery, Baking, Gardening, Drama etc. Our summer schedule is based around themed days such as sports, arts and crafts, day trips, dress up and other activities.

Children can attend any or all of these programmes to accommodate parents and children’s requirements.

Hot snack

Each day the children receive a hot snack shortly after arrival at the service.  Sample menus include chicken curry, soup and rolls, spaghetti on toast, pasta with tuna and sweetcorn, chicken goujons.  Fresh fruit, drinks and yoghurt are available for the children.

Funding & Fees

“My Time” Afterschools Service is a not-for-profit community run childcare facility, funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs under the Community Childcare Subvention (CCS) Scheme.

The continuation and existence of the service is dependent on three main factors:

  1. The need by parents/guardians for afterschool childcare in the community
  2. The uptake of available places at the after-schools service
  3. Government funding or subvention to support parents to enable their child to attend the service.
Government funding to subsidise the cost of childcare to social welfare/medical card recipients is solely dependant on the number of children attending the service during a snapshot week set by the department.

Who Qualifies?

Parents/guardians who are in receipt of a social welfare payment or have a medical card can qualify for reduced childcare for the year by having their child attend the service on that particular week. Parents who qualify for subvention pay the difference between the cost price and the government subsidy.

How much does it cost?

  1. Band A – Full Subvention
  2. Band B – Part Subvention

Fees are charged at a daily or hourly rate depending on parents requirements.

Once a child is registered with the service they are registered for their primary school life. Parents/guardians can use the service as their own circumstances require it, whether it is on an hourly, daily or weekly basis.
